In the hills above Mackay, in a gorgeous rainforest, is the town of Eungella. It is known internationally as a place for spotting platypus. Dawn is the best time to sight them at the edge of the water. We stood on the riverbank surrounded by other humans, united in a hushed reverence. These odd little creatures, who evaded photography, inspired awe and wonder in our family and the other folk gathered there in the cool, green lushness of the early morning hours.
