Sir John Gorge is a magical place at Mornington Wildlife Sanctuary on the Gibb River Road in the Kimberley, Western Australia. I sat there on red rocks under the wide blue sky and sketched the rolling golden hills and fractured red cliffs. Meanwhile my children spotted a shy Merton’s water monitor in the shrubs on the waters edge. We spent a relaxing afternoon there in isolation, a rare thing on the now popular tourist route through the Kimberley.
